AUCKLAND (FIBA U19 World Championship) - Greece have bounced back from their loss to the USA and made light work of Egypt, 100-59, at the FIBA U19 World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand.
The European champions led 37-17 at quarter time, 59-22 at half time and 76-36 at the last break before winning by 41 points, record their third win of the tournament and move within striking distance of the quarter finals.
The Greeks face France on Wednesday morning at ASB Stadium and must win to advance, with a loss likely to leave them in an unfavourable head-to-head equation.
Against Egypt, Nikolaos Pappas (18 points), Leonidas Kaselakis (12 points) and Ioannis Angelopoulos (11 points, 4 rebounds) enjoyed the day out, as their team handed out 24 assists to 7, and scored 44 points inside to 26.
For the overmatched Egyptians, Adham Mohamed Elsayed (16 points, 4 rebounds) and Osama Shawki Mohamed (12 points, 7 rebounds) reached double figures. Amro Sherif Abdelhalim, the star against Lithuania, was held to 9 points on 18% shooting.
Egypt have won one game in the tournament, a memorable overtime victory over Iran, and complete their Group E games against Puerto Rico at ASB Stadium on Wednesday morning.
Egypt will then play off for positions 9-12.
